I’m excited to share with you all the behind the scenes of a recent maternity shoot where I was invited to be the hair stylist on-set! In October of 2020, mommy-to-be, Chelsea, teamed up with the visionary, Tanya Rawlings, of The Photo Firm, to execute these Beyonce: Black Is King/Wakanda inspired maternity pictures. I just threw all that together because that’s what she was serving y’all!

Hello, and thank you for hanging out in my little corner of the internet where I discuss the highs, lows, and wonderful experiences I encounter being a lover and server of natural hair and braiding. Here, I get a chance to open up about what it’s been like to transform this “mommy hobby” and skill into an actual business that serves my passions and honors tradition, peace & beauty.

In 2017, Braid Bar Houston, LLC., was contacted and hired by an Associate Producer with a marketing group in NYC, to provide braiding services at a local football game and drum up awareness for a new Target store grand opening.

In December of 2017, I celebrated my clients and my 1 year anniversary of opening the doors of Braid Bar Houston, LLC., with an appreciation dinner. These ladies were all an integral part in the success of my business in numerous ways.

When I first started braiding hair over 18 years ago, all of my clients were friends and family. When I went on to college in 2002, I began braiding my basketball teammates' hair throughout the seasons. After college, in 2007, I gave birth to my daughter, Phoenix, now 12. Little did I know, but this child would grow up to not only be tender-headed, but to also have some of the thickest hair I had ever braided!
